Brain Dynamics Lab

The UBC Brain Dynamics Lab investigates the Cognitive Modes detectable by fMRI using a range of cognitive tasks, such as memory, reasoning, theory of mind, and task switching. This process also involved developing multivariate analysis methods for the analysis of fMRI data, and software (fMRI-CPCA) (www.nitrc.org/projects/fmricpca).

Through this process, we identified a set of task-based cognitive modes, a subset of which can be retrieved in all task-based fMRI data tested to date. Based on the experimental condition to which they respond, a cognitive function has been assigned to all. This is now available in a pre-published edited book (Woodward & Percival, 2025).
